BOARD FOR OLDER FOLKS

Hi. I have a suggestion. Is there any way there could be a board for people over 40? We love the young folks on here, but I think there needs to be a board for us. We have issues that have to deal with age that are different from the younger generation. Also, it would give us a chance to just hang out with people in our age group, and would give the young folks a chance to really get to know us. Thanks.

I think this sounds like a good idea, but it is not something that is needed. We have enough topics that one could start a board topic with questions for a more mature group of people. There really isn't a way to stop younger persons from adding their two cents to any topic or board. Besides, old dogs can learn new tricks, pardon the pun.

I agree with Nim, though I think it's a good idea, I don't think we need a separate board, there is, I believe, a board for "teen topics" because there may be legal issues involved with the kids under a certain age seeing certain words and language. Believe you me, they'll see it if it's illegal to see it. But the zone is protected anyway.

Wonder Woman started a topic about older posters I think it was in the "let's talk" board. Seems like if you want to specify a certain group you could put it in the header, or in the first post.

Just my thoughts.

Oops, didn't know that. didn't see it while I was up there. My mistake. Scratch this one off. lol sorry.

Actually teen topics is not there because of legal reasons. It is not a censored board, rather a board for an age group, just like the students board. Safe Haven is the family board. I think this is a valid idea for a board and maybe would encourage more older members. Thoughts?

Sure, I'd go for it. I thought teen topics was for legal reasons.

I'd love a place to complain about my arthritis.

well, I still think this is a wonderful idea. well, if the youngers ones are going to come and put their 2 cents in on a board for 40 ish and older, they will probably get bored verry quick. I just went through a surgery a couple of weeks ago, but haven't talked about it on here, because it's not the sort of thing I would discuss with younger teen boys, not even on th ehealth board or safe haven. it's a womans issue, and nothing the younger ones would understand yet til they get our age, so I'm backing dream lady up all the way. I leftthe site for a while way back for this very reason, because there was no board for older users, and i was ignored when i brought it up before, but there are more people coming on all th etime, and i'm happy to see there are more older people on here.

Anyone got a good name or description? SHould we say over 40 or just something reflecting more grown-up users?

Post 9 by wonderwoman (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Wednesday, 21-Mar-2007 23:20:28

well the name of the board could be either 40 plus, or older zoners, trying to think of a good description, maybesomething like for folks 40 and up. hope that helps. or maybe for those over 40 to gather and chat? sorry, maybe someone can come up with a better description. but the 40 plus name sounds good to me, what do the older ones thing?

heres a good idea. what about the "over 40 zone" or something like that.

Post 11 by wonderwoman (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 22-Mar-2007 0:01:47

sounds good to me

Post 12 by blbobby (Ooo you're gona like this!) on Thursday, 22-Mar-2007 3:09:15

I hate to be nit picking, but you know us older folks. I don't like the "over 40 zone", just because of the word zone in there. Makes us sound like we have our own zone. And I'm not going to quit fighting with the youngsters just because I now would have my own place.

However, I do like something like "over 40 board". That implies, that anything posted in that board would be more likely to be of interest to those of us over 40.

What do you think?

Now, let me tell you about my arthritis....

Bob.

I'd say why limit hte older folks board to over 40? Are thirty-somethings still considered young folks? Always thought it was your teens and twenties when you were considered youthful, then you were more of an adult past 30. I'd just call the board the Adult Zoners board and see what happens.

I am not sure about adult board. I mean over 18 people are adults.
But i agree it shouldn't spesify age like 440 and over because somebody might be 39 lol.
What about the amature board or mature or something? I mean i don't know the exact meaning of these words so i might be wrong but these word sound to me as somebody old enough experienced etc. So it might work.

Sorry. A lot of spelling mistakes.
I know i should read before posting lol. I usually read before posting when i create something but when i reply quickly usually i don't which is not good.

well, if it's going to be a board for 30's as well as 40's, I guess it could be called olderzoners board. i haven't heard a suggestion so far that sounds bad, so it's hard to say which is better. well guess you could be right bobby, 40 plus z one might make it sound like we have our own zone, hadn't thought of that, and just keeep talking about your arthritis, that way the younger folk who think we don't need a board for older folk will be begging j squared and chris n to create a board for older folk so they don't have to see posts about our older folk troubles.

Well title is difficult to nail down, because if you say over 40 people who are say 25 or 30 might feel they are older in thinking and wish to be included. Also I don't no what topics could be covered that can't be cover anyway. I agree just title the topic accly and you've started the thread on that subject. When a person mentally thinks there older then they are and would wish to be included, so maybe it could be called the olders or the elders board? Just a suggestion.

I have to say I agree with Nym on this topic! I mean most of my friends are like 40 to 59 any way! Not to say I'm old or anything! When I find a topic that I like and that I want to add my sinse too I go for it! I don't care what board it's on either!

What about Life begins at 40? As an over 40, I'm not old enough yet to be an older zoner! haha!

The heck you aren't! (Just kidding.)

I like "life begins at forty." It's nonrestrictive, but it is descriptive.

Thanks.

I did like Life Begins at 40 too, but also didn't want to put in a specific age, like some suggested. So I went with Elder Folk for now. It's now on the list.
Enjoy.
